Why SEO as a marketing technique is so good.

We spend a fair amount of time talking about techniques for SEO and how things work within the engines. What I would like to take a moment to do is discuss why SEO is so useful as a marketing tool.

I think that for me the main reason that organically optimising your business to be found on the internet is so powerful, is that you are only paying to be found by people actually looking for what you sell.

If you place an advert for printed material in the newspapers, or on the television, hundreds of people who don’t want anything printed will see the advert. You are having to pay to show your advert to people that have no interest in printing and are never going to buy from you.

However, if you spend money budgeting to have the term banner stands optimised, then everytime some searches for banner stands you will be found. Not only that, the people that have found are not only searching for printed material, they are specifically searching for banner stands, so the likely hood of them converting into customers are incredibly high. So it is the targeted nature of the money spend that makes it powerful.

The other thing is volume of traffic. On average, just under five thousand people a day search on the term pet insurance. As such, if you are selling pet insurance, and you appear in the top of the listings for pet insurance, you are quite likely to get a huge amount of visitors to your website and thus make a lot of money of the back of that.

If you are reading this you probably already have an understanding of all this, so perhaps I am preaching to the converted a little. Optimise your website, in the long term it is more than worth while.

How to avoid black hat SEO

Most people outside of the SEO world think that it is a some kind of magic secret art form, and in a way it is even though there are 1001 people out there giving out free information it still remains a fairly secretive art.

Now this does not help if you are looking to hire a SEO to help out your business. Exspecaily when the scarey term Black hat SEO pops up. Now The first thing that you need to know is that this is not a black and white world. In real terms all effective SEO fall into the grey area between the two it's not like some disney film where you have the good white guys and the evil guys all dressed up in black so they are easily reconisable.

When you say you want to avoid a black hat SEO or that you are looking to hire a white hat SEO what you are actually looking for is someone who isn't going to get you in trouble with the search engines, whilst alos being effective at there job. Most effective SEO at some point have dabbled in the dark arts, this is very useful so they know what not to do and what works.

These are my tick list to hire some one who is white hat enought not to get you in trouble.

  1. Do they they use press releases
  2. On of the most ligitimate white hat ways of getting links is to use press releases, by asking a prospective SEO company if they use these will enable you to figure out how good they are a viral link building. Don't just ask them if they use them, ask them for a example of success campaign. Then search for some of the press releases. A good press release can get you link from some of the most trusted and most visted news websites on the web.

  3. Do they want you to link back to their website
  4. Never trust a SEO who want to you to place a link back to there website on your site. It is a common trick for SEO company to get clients off the back of there site being ranking in the search engines and then use there client to just improv their ranking. You only want to link out to website that are trusted and relevant within your field, and you definately don't want to send a message to the search engines saying you are assoicated with a SEO company.

  5. Talk to a client of their which is over one year old.
  6. You want to talk to clients fo the website, make sure that the client is over one year old at least this will show that what they have done has lasted a period of time and they haven't been kick out for doing anything dodgy. It's better if you can get a two or three yeat old client or even talk to one or two. Then check the ranking for yourself, and compare they ranking to that of other companies within their field.
It's not easy to pick the SEO who right for you, but if you check out these three things your chances are much higher, goof luck.

Here at SEO research we have started to play around with a couple of other pages purely on the onsite optimisation stuff have a quick look and see what you think. They are breast reduction surgery and botox injection Maidenhead.

WebhostingGeeks - directory

Since DMOZ has become all but impossible to get into, people are looking elsewhere for directory entrys. We spoke last time about how directory entrys can be integral to your seo campaign, well I just found a new possiblity for you.
Webhostinggeeks has a free directory at the back. It is human edited, and you can submit for nothing, however you do have to provide a reciprical link back to them with the anchor text Best Web Hosting Review as so. Recipricol linking isn't nessasarily the way forward, and so I'm not sure how useful this is - unless they allow you link from a different site. At this point it does become useful potentiall.
I plan to investigate this further...

How to Improve Site Rankings With Directories

If you are looking for a powerful way to get inbound links to your website, you might want to consider using article directories.  Directories let authors upload content such as reviews, how-to's, and buying information, that is free to use by other websites.  If you write a catchy and informative article, it could quickly be picked up by hundreds of other sites, newsletters, and directories.

Why is this a good thing?  There are three reasons.  The first is that it helps to establish your website's credibility as an expert in its field.  By writing well about your primary topic of interest, you'll seem more professional, more informed, and people will trust you more.

Secondly, you can include links to your website in the body of your article or in an About the Author blurb.  This will drive more traffic to your website as people all across the net are impressed by your experience and knowledge.

Thirdly, those inbound links can transfer authority to your website, causing Google and the other search engines to give your web pages a higher ranking.

A few minutes of solid writing on your business' key topics can really boost your Google results and your website traffic.  Give it a try - most article directories are free to use, so it costs you nothing but a bit of time and effort.
